Thing 2 (Library 2.0)

Being a new Library Information Assistant (less than one year), my basic concerns have been just learning the specific tasks of my job. In the past I have utilized the Web but not necessarily embraced it so I wasn't even familiar with the concept of Web 2.0, which it seems one must understand in order to figure out what is meant by Library 2.0. After watching the video and reading several of the articles posted I feel I have a better understanding of what is meant by Library 2.0. From my short time at the Library I have sensed the reluctance to change and the longing for the "good old days" by some Library Staff. I have also seen the demand for new technology, and increased need for more computer terminals to meet the information needs and wants of patrons, and the embracing of technology by most staff. The point made by the gentleman in the video, about making time for what we see as priorities, hits it on the spot. If we want to move forward and better serve our existing, and upcoming Library users, we will make technology a priority and take time for learning new technologies so that we can become innovative in the use of technology within the Library System. As far as my use of technology goes, I am currently frustrated because the spell checking option does not seem to be working. I am trying to utilize basic skills just to get this posted and am not having much success, time to walk upstairs and do it the old fashioned way, look up the correct spelling in the dictionary!

Hang in there and keep trying some of the Things. You won't find all of them fun or useful, I dare say, but you will probably find something you like to use.
